Second Grade Scoop May 19th-2 week edition

It is hard to believe that we are down to our final weeks of the ’18-’19 school year! Many fun activities will keep us busy these next couple of weeks! A few notes... We are heavy into end-of-year assessments at this point. So far, we've done MAP and I am excited to say that the kids did amazing! I am astounded by the growth made by the entire class and I'm so proud of the hard work each child has put into this year. I am excited to share the results with you soon!!! Please return your permission slips for our last field trip if you haven't done so. If your child still has books from the school library, please have him/her turn them in as soon as possible so the library can take inventory. Also, please check your bookshelves for books that go with our classroom library as well. Thank you! What's coming up? Second Grade Scoop May 12th

Students did a great job with the Music Concert - we hope you enjoyed it! Thanks again to Mrs. Krueger for all of her efforts. This coming week we will finish up MAP Testing with Ms. Zobel’s class testing on Wednesday and Mr. Skurr’s class on Thursday. Upcoming Events: May 21st - Family Night:Tailgate and Treats May 24th and 27th - No School May 29th - Kaukauna History & Government Field Trip Curriculum Updates: Reading Students will get the chance to read and discuss about some more non-fiction topics of interest through clubs. This week we’ll focus on author’s purpose and inferring. Writing Our work with lab reports continues this week. Students will utilize a checklist to help them edit  and improve their writing. Math We will continue working on subtraction with 3 digits and practicing different strategies. Students will also think about how addition can help them out with subtraction. May 6-10th

I can't believe it's May! As we near the end of the school year, we will begin our end of the year assessments. This week Mrs. Zobel's class will have their math MAP test on Tuesday, and Mr. Skurr's will be on Wednesday . This week we will be choosing new topics and focusing on main ideas and key details. We'll spend time time developing our ideas through club conversations as well. April 29th-April 3rd

The week starts our final units of study in Reading and Writing - how time flies! With our new Writing unit, we will be conducting experiments and writing up results. On Wednesday this week, students should bring in one of the following candies of choice so they can conduct a follow up experiment: M&Ms, Starbursts, marshmallows, Kit Kat, Reeses Pieces Cups, or Life Savers. Second Grade Scoop April 15th

We have a short but busy half week coming up! On Monday students should bring in an egg for the schoolwide Egg Crack Off competition. Second graders are also asked to wear green for that day. Our field trip to the Barlow Planetarium is on Tuesday. We will leave around 12:40pm and should return by 2:30. If you want to order books from the Scholastic forms sent home a couple weeks ago, the due date is April 16th. Lastly, Running Club will continue this week for those that have signed up. It will only be on Tuesday after school (weather looks to be good). Upcoming Events: April 17th - Early Release 11:30am April 18th - 22nd - No School Curriculum Updates: Reading: This week students will be learning how to debate topics from fiction books. They will have to take a side and be able to support that side of the debate by using text evidence. Hello, Students did an amazing job with their KAT questions. They all received NDLC flashlights with light up pens. So cool!! Please return Barlow Planetarium permission slips by Wednesday, April 10th. If you'd like to order books from the book order, they are due April 16th.
