Second Grade Scoop September 17-21st

Things are rolling now in 2nd grade!
Please continue to review agendas and feel free to use them to communicate any routine changes or questions you have. This upcoming week will be Safety Week so students will be practicing what to do in various situations.
Important Dates:
Friday, September 21 - No School for Students
Tuesday, September 25 - Family Night (5:30-7:00). Please RSVP by Wed. Sept. 19th.
Wednesday, September 26- Picture Day

Curriculum:
Readers Workshop : We are building our stamina as readers and trying to read more books and for a longer time each day. This week we started practicing strategies like stop, think, and retell, as well as using Post It notes to write down thoughts to discuss with a partner.
Writers Workshop : Students have finished one or more small moment stories. They are bringing their stories to life by unfreezing people (move and talk), telling small steps, and bringing out the inside (thoughts and feelings) to help keep readers excited about their writing.
Math Workshop : We have been using Math Mountains to help with addition and subtraction facts and looking at equations to identify the total and the addends (partners) with teen number equations.
Social Studies : We continue to build our classroom community. Students are being given jobs each week to help us work as a team.

Science : We have Painted Lady caterpillars in the room with us! Students learned about the needs of their caterpillars (similar to human needs) and also had the chance to give them each a name.

Thanks for all you do to help and support your child. If you have any thoughts, questions, or concerns, please let me know!

Have a great week!
