Curricular Updates

Content:
Ms. Zobel’s class continues to work in our Works of Water Unit. So far we’ve investigate the questions, ‘Why do rivers flow?’ and ‘Why is there sand at the beach?’ Ask your student why some beaches have purple sand!
Mr. Skurr's class continued their unit on geography. We talked about how glaciers from the Ice Age has impacted what Wisconsin looks like (lakes and rivers today). Do you know the highest point in Wisconsin? If not, see if your child remembers.

Math:
The first unit has finished and we are now exploring different ways to represent numbers (numerically, sketches, expanded form, and in words) as well as looking at place value. We are also practicing daily with using coins (pennies, nickels, and dimes) and understanding values.

Writing:
Our small moments, narrative writing unit is finishing as well and students are diligently working on books to share with you at conferences. The books encompass many things we have done over the past months and students picked a few goals to focus on in their writing. We hope you enjoy them!

Reading:
This week we wrapped up discussing and practicing various skills and strategies to help us as readers of fiction books. We had a special reading time on Wednesday as students brought in flashlights to read some Halloween books in the dark. It was really impressive how focused they have been with independent reading time. Next we will be looking closely at nonfiction text.
