Curriculum Updates
Reading
As an extension of our nonfiction unit, we had students pick a holiday around the world to research and share what they learned. Ask your child which holiday they learned about (Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Diwali, or Las Posadas).
Writing
We had a gallery walk this week, allowing students opportunities to read and learn from classmates on various nonfiction topics. After break, students will be in a writing ‘boot camp’ for three days to help review and practice some grammar and conventions skills before moving into our fiction writing unit.
Math
Our unit on measuring will finish when we come back from back. Students will then have a mid year checkup on concepts and skills taught so far this year to see how they are doing.
Content
Ms. Zobel and Mr. Skurr have finished their respective science and social studies units with each other’s class. Students will be working again with their homeroom teacher for content after break. Ms. Zobel’s class will be exploring plant adaptations and Mr. Skurr’s students will look at local government.
