Second Grade Scoop December 10-17

Hello,
We are gearing up for another busy week in 2nd grade. We will be meeting with our buddy classes tomorrow from 2-3 and will have some special visitors to our school. Ask your child about this exciting event when he/she gets home tomorrow!

Just a reminder, there is no school this Tuesday, December 11th due to teacher inservice.

Upcoming events:
Tuesday, December 11 - No School
Thursday, December 13 - Family Night (PJ’s and Publishing)-Students may wear pjs to school

Curriculum Updates:

Reading-We are continuing our nonfiction unit. We've been working on organizing our notebooks to grow our knowledge about topics we are reading about and teaching this information to our partners.

Writing-This week we will be working on adding  key words specific to our topics, teaching pictures and how-tos into our information all about books.

Math - We continue working our way through Unit 3, Length and Shapes. This week we will be measuring using centimeters and comparing 2-D and 3-D shapes.

Content-Ms. Zobel’s class continues to work in our Works of Water Unit. So far we’ve investigate the questions, ‘Why do rivers flow?’ and ‘Why is there sand at the beach?’ Ask your student why some beaches have purple sand!

Mr. Skurr's class continued their unit on geography. We talked about how glaciers from the Ice Age has impacted what Wisconsin looks like (lakes and rivers today). Do you know the highest point in Wisconsin? If not, see if your child remembers.
