Curriculum Updates:

Reading

As the books we are reading get longer, it’s important to be able to stop at points in our book and retell what has happened (thinking about character, setting, problem, solution, and lesson learned). At the end of chapters are always a great place to do a retell. We’ll continue to get to know our book characters by looking at traits and motivations this week.

Writing

We had a mini celebration this past week. Students were first able to get some feedback from partners and then make any changes before sharing one of their finished realistic fiction books with peers. This week we’ll look at a writing checklist tool and also look at what our favorite authors do in their writing.

Math

We are learning and practicing different strategies to help us solve 2 digit subtraction problems. Some of the strategies include using a number line to count up, using sketch drawings to take away, and ungrouping to make subtraction friendlier.

Content
Ms. Zobel's class learned the importance of water (which is taken in by the roots) for plants, and what is about dirt that plants really need. They built a Root Viewer to see up close how roots behave. Mr. Skurr's class read the story Mayor for Day and discussed the importance of having rules/laws.
