Curriculum Updates:

Reading:
We are continuing to get to know our characters in our book! We've been thinking about our character's feelings and traits and writing evidence to support it. This week we'll be noticing how our character changes from the beginning to the end of our stories, and how all the parts fit together.

Writing:
In writing we have been working to revise our realistic fiction stories to make them even stronger. We've been acting out what are characters are doing and telling the story bit by bit. This week we'll be work to show what our character is like on the inside and outside. We'll also work on our leads to give hints and build tension about what is going to happen in our story.

Math:
We are continuing to work on subtracting double-digit equations. The students have many different strategies to use when solving problems that require ungrouping. The tricky part is to remember that not all problems require ungrouping a ten. We will continue to work on these types of problems this week.

Content:

Ms. Zobel's class studied the question, "Why do trees grow so tall?" We also made a grasshead that we will be observing in the upcoming weeks. Ask your child about this activity.

Mr. Skurr's class learned more about the jobs of the mayor and common council. Next week we will continue to look at other important parts of local government.
